First Responders Trauma Retreat
Mission: It is our intention not just to save lives but also the quality of life for First Responders who risk their lives every day, often at the expense of their own. We are committed to fulfilling a need virtually absent in this profession by using evidence based holistic healing modalities and utilizing the most advanced therapeutic techniques available to treat trauma related physical, psychological, and
spiritual injuries.
Shadowland Foundation, through its wolf education programs have discovered the healing nature of
this prehistoric creature and man’s first companion and teacher. Archaeologists claim the wolf was
vital to Homo Sapien survival. Letting them perform this original mission here at the ranch for our precious First Responder community is our honor and theirs too.
“Mental Health is a term that has been bandied about as something necessary for preventing and treating trauma, addiction, and suicide; yet many do not understand what it really is or how to implement it effectively. Modern Neurological advancements and discoveries have led to such exciting and effective treatment modalities that do not just save people’s lives but enhance them. However, most people and organizations avoid the subject altogether because of the shame attached. It is considered ‘taboo’ in our culture of “just suck it up” and “move on”. This approach is literally killing people.
Walk with Freedom could inspire a long-awaited breakthrough highlighting the science of healing the brain and understanding that trauma of any kind, from childhood on, is an injury and should be treated as such. Hero’s already, your courage to heal could light the path to understanding mental health, ending the “stigma” attached to it by your profession and society at large. The benefits of humanity would be miraculous.
Here at the ranch, we call Freedom, our Wolves & Wellness programs have taught us that Veterans, First Responders, and their families suffer greatly, because you witness and experience so much loss. Your days are filled with “unspeakable” and often live your lives left to grieve alone in quiet desperation. You wear brave faces in public but reaching out for help for yourselves is not built into your culture and considered dishonorable. As a result, the suicide, addiction, and divorce rates in your profession are skyrocketing. It is no longer necessary to suffer alone. With help, we can learn to heal the past and process the present in a healthy way, living life fully and authentically. Let us help!”
We will offer one day and one-week retreats where the individual and peers honor and respect the sacrifice of the First Responder who are themselves in need. Seeing yourself in the reflection of the golden eyes of the wolf heals the heart, mind, and soul. It starts with their unconditional acceptance plus teamwork at its primal best, with explicit unity, communication, play, patience, and loyalty. This retreat offers an opportunity to share yourself with the wolves and others who have been where you have been, have firsthand knowledge of your struggles with job related traumatic events. Together we will help discover, uncover, reveal, and heal from events that have or could interfere with the quality of your life.
